Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, school districts in Arkansas have been required to develop Ready for Learning Plans which outline how the districts will operate using safety guidelines. We are adding the following mask update to the plan for Lavaca School District. Mask Procedure Update As of March 31, 2021, Lavaca School District Faculty, Staff, and Students are allowed to make a personal decision regarding wearing a mask at school. On March 15, 2021, the Lavaca School Board of Education was proactive in voting to make mask wearing optional once Governor Hutchinson removed the mandate on March 30, 2021. A motion was made by Perry Newman, seconded by Tricia May, to make mask wearing voluntary when the Mask Mandate was lifted. The motion carried unanimously. (4-0) A link to the Board Minutes will be posted in May. The school district will continue to follow state guidelines concerning safety protocols including, and not limited to sanitization, social distancing, etc. Throughout the pandemic, Lavaca School District has diligently complied with the directives of the Arkansas Department of Health, and we will continue to do so. Therefore, effective March 31, 2021, masks have not been required to be worn by students, staff, or visitors when on Lavaca School District campuses. All other directives of the Arkansas Department of Health continue to be in effect including enhanced sanitization practices and social distancing etc… Although no longer required, students, staff, and visitors are welcome to continue to wear masks at school and school events. As always, if you have questions or concerns please contact me or any Lavaca School District Administrator. Steve Rose Superintendent
