In the Lavaca Choir Program, we strive for excellence in our musicianship, academics, and character. Ms. Nye has high expectations for her students and endeavors to make a positive impact in each student's life. Below is a list of all the events we attend or put on through the year.

Junior High All-Region Tryouts:
All students will be auditioning. They learn music chosen by directors from all over the state of Arkansas. Once their music is learned, they get to
spend a Saturday with other Junior High/Middle School students from
our region competing for spots in the All-Region Choirs.
High School All-Region Tryouts:
All students will be auditioning. They learn music chosen by directors from all over United States. Once their music is learned, they get to
spend a Saturday with other High School students from our region
competing for spots in the All-Region Choirs.
The students that make All-Region Choirs get to
spend the day in Russellville working with guest Clinicians and
singing with other students from Region 4.
The choir program will be hosting a talent show in the spring semester for the Middle School and High School students.
The students perform music chosen by Ms. Nye. Both choirs perform at this concert.
The students from High School that make it into the top 20 chairs in the All-Region choir get the opportunity to work with directors from our region on their audition music.
In February the students that made the top 20 chairs in our All-Region Mixed Chorus compete with every other student that made the top 20 chairs from across the state on their audition music.
All students that make the All-Region choirs
gather in Hot Springs at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Arkansas
Choral Directors Association brings in guest clinicians for each group
and the students get the opportunity to work with directors from all
over the nation. The students will practice their music for two days
working towards their performance on the third day.
Choral Performance Assessment:
The Middle and High School choirs will be traveling to another school to be judged on their knowledge of music and sight reading skills. Three choral conductors from other parts of the state that have become certified adjudicators will listen to our choirs perform 2-3 prepared pieces, one of which must be a capella. Each judge will give a score from 1-5, 1 being the best.
For High School, they must have a piece in a foreign language on top
of their a capella piece. Sight reading is judged by one certified adjudicator. Their job is to evaluate the process each director uses for sight reading and how it helps your students succeed. Again, this judge will give a score from
1-5, 1 being the best. If the High School choir scores a 1 or 2R (the R stands for
recommended) they receive the opportunity to go to State Choral
Performance Assessment and repeat the process for different judges
from across the nation.
The students get to vote on the theme for this concert from an approved list that Ms. Nye provides. Then Ms. Nye chooses music to fit within that theme to perform.
