Lavaca High School Students attended Girls and Boys State summer 2018

Seniors Hope Headley & Adeline Newhart joined high school seniors from around Arkansas for the 2018 American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Girls State leadership conference held this summer at Harding University in Searcy.

Seniors, Jonathon Hollon & Haedden Vereecke attended the 2018 American Legion Auxiliary’s Boys State in Conway, AR.

LifeCHAMPS: It’s Not Just School, It’s Life!

Lavaca Middle School has been awarded a $2,500 Cox Charities Innovation in Education grant to continue the growth of the special education program called LifeCHAMPS: It’s Not Just School, It’s Life!

 Lavaca HIgh School (LHS) is being awarded $11,012.40 for being in the top 6%-10% for growth in the area of Graduation Rate.  This is the 2nd consecutive year LHS has received the award.

We are pleased to announce that Lavaca Elementary and Lavaca High School each received Blue & You mini-grants in the amount of $1,000. Elementary will utilize their funding for car seat education and injury prevention, and high school is piloting a flexible classroom program. We are very appreciative to the Blue & You Foundation for their continued support in our efforts for a healthier community.

Elementary Beautification Project

Lavaca Elementary has received a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant in the amount of $3500 for beautification of the campus. Funds will be used to landscape the front of the building to create a more inviting learning atmosphere for all students, staff and visitors.

Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan


School Choice

Lavaca Public Schools participates in the Arkansas Public School Choice Act 560 of 2015.  Any parent residing outside the Lavaca School District who desires to send their child to the Lavaca Schools beginning with the 2018-2019 school year may obtain an application in the superintendent’s office at 203 Fir Street, Lavaca, AR 72941.  The application must be postmarked no later than May 1 of the year in which the pupil would begin the fall semester at the nonresident district.

Parents are encouraged to have the application submitted as soon as possible as the new School Choice Law has 3% cap limitation on the number of applications that can be accepted.

Applications do not have to be resubmitted for any students currently attending Lavaca Schools under the School Choice Act.  This notice is prepared in accordance with the Arkansas Public Choice Act of 2015.

The Lavaca Public School District is now taking nominations for The Lavaca Schools Hall of Honor. The Lavaca Schools Hall of Honor recognizes those persons whose contributions, accomplishments, or service to the students, schools, district and/or community of Lavaca have exceeded customary expectations. The Hall of Honor recognizes achievement (contributions or accomplishments) of an exceptional nature in any field, vocational or voluntary, which benefits the students and schools of Lavaca in their endeavors. We are excited to announce that Lavaca Public Schools will be offering an after school program for students in grades K-8 during the 2017-2018 school year. There will be two sessions each day Monday through Thursday.  The first session will run from 3:30 to 4:15 and will be a time for teachers to help with homework and academics. The second session will run from 4:15 to 5:00 and will be activity based. More details will follow at a later date, so be on the lookout for future announcements!
